Parking is available in front of the Pearl Street Building at 110 Pearl Street and in the gravel lot beside the Pearl Street Building. The Garner Area Historical Society The Museum is located at 106 Pearl Street in Historic Downtown Garner.

History Leads the Future of Downtown Garner: Historic Depot and Caboose Relocated

On December 14th 2019, Garner’s Historic Depot and Caboose were relocated from their homes along Garner Road to their new home on the corner of Main and Pearl to become the centerpieces of a new Garner History Museum.

The Historic Depot and Caboose were both placed on remote-controlled casters for their journey.

As the depot made the precarious trip over the railroad tracks, disaster was barely avoided as control was momentarily lost while a worker was making adjustments to the front wheels. He escaped just in time.

The back corner of the depot crashed in to the rail crossing signal and suffered minor damage.

New Home on Main and Pearl

The Depot and Caboose move are another example of teamwork between the town and citizens and local organizations. Town Manager Rodney Dickerson celebrates in the back along with Garner Area Historical Society boardmembers Karen Padgett, Judy Bass, Kaye Whaley, Rebecca Lakey, and Barbra Kennedy.

The Town of Garner owns the land where the new museum and park are now located and contributed to the move and restoration of the depot and caboose. The Garner Area Historical Society will fund and operate the museum.

Foundation Work Begins for Historic Depot Relocation

Total Construction employee Elmore O'Neil shows an artifact found while digging footings on site of the former Dupree house.

Foundation is work under way for the Historic Depot move in preparation of housing a local history museum at the corner of Main Street and Pearl Street.

Total Construction employee Elmore O'Neil shows an artifact found while digging footings on site of the former Dupree house, circa 1850s, gone now. It appears to be an old window weight, technology for aiding the raising and lowering of windows.

Bricks and possibly an ash dump were also unearthed.
