Garner Receives $850,000 in Federal Funds for Jones Sausage Road Improvements

On July 27, 2026, U.S. Congresswoman Deborah Ross joined members of the Garner Town Council, and municipal staff at Garner Town Hall to announce $850,000 in federal community project funding. Secured through federal appropriations, the dedicated capital investment will directly finance safety enhancements, roadway capacity expansion, and multimodal improvements along Jones Sausage Road in North Garner.
The planned municipal capital improvement project addresses mounting traffic volumes along the major commercial corridor through road widening, additional dedicated turn lanes, and redesign of the heavily traveled intersection at East Garner Road. In addition to vehicular infrastructure, the project incorporates critical pedestrian safety features, including new ADA-compliant sidewalks, crosswalk upgrades, and transit accessibility enhancements to better serve daily commuters and workforce transit riders.
A key highlight of the infrastructure project is the creation of a dedicated greenway link connecting surrounding residential neighborhoods to the newly established Yeargan Park as well as planned mixed-use developments in North Garner. Town engineering officials and community leaders noted that the federal grant will significantly accelerate project timelines, mitigating congestion near major regional distribution hubs while fostering safer non-vehicular mobility.
